The Duchy School

Bradninch

Bradninch Town

To many people, Bradninch is a village, but it is in fact one of the oldest towns in Devon.  It received its first charter in 1141 and in 1208 was given equal status to Exeter.  In 1604 it was made a Municipal Borough, but lost this in 1886 when many boroughs were abolished.

Bradninch has strong Royal connections, the local church coming under the patronage of the House of Windsor and many local farms belonging to the Duchy of Cornwall.  Until fairly recently the Duchy of Cornwall’s local offices were in the town. These connections are responsible for the school’s name being “The Duchy School”.

As well as the church, the town has a local Post Office, a shop and several small businesses, including garages.  There are many local clubs and societies which create a thriving social life.
