The Duchy School

Year 6 Dartmoor Residential

Monday 2nd October

We arrived safely to a drizzly Training Centre. However, this didn’t put us off and the children have enjoyed taking part in a range of activities this afternoon including orienteering and a range of team building challenges. There were some ‘interesting’ name choices for their orienteering teams and some even more ‘interesting’ secret handshakes!

All of teams worked well together in a variety of team challenges.

After a meal of pizza, garlic bread, salad and choc-ices, the children have completed a challenge where they have tried to make the tallest tower using only newspaper and masking tape. Some of the towers were a towering success while others were a little … smaller.

We’re looking forward to a busy day of caving and archery tomorrow.

Tuesday 3rd October

We’ve had another fantastic day today. Children spent half of the day practising their archery skills and competing against each other in a number of challenges.

There were a number of bulleyes scored by some budding Robin Hoods.

We’re also incredibly proud of all of the children who had a great time exploring underground at Pridhamsleigh Cavern. I’m sure that parents will be pleased to hear that the children will be coming home with a range of wet and muddy clothes!

Wednesday 4th October

We’ve had another fun-filled, exciting and busy day today. We headed to Soussons Forest and explored the many tracks, hills and jumps on mountain bikes.

The children also split into groups to explore the forest on foot while completing an orienteering challenge. We were really impressed with the children who finished with some of the highest scores that we have seen!

This evening, children have taken part in a fashion show. They worked in groups to design a ‘super hero’ with positive super powers that can change the world.

We’ve finished the evening with a campfire and toasted marshmallows.

Thursday 5th October

We’ve spent a busy day at Hound Tor today where the children have enjoyed climbing, weasling and scrambling. They are now enjoying a disco before our end of residential prize giving. Be prepared for some tired children and suitcases of dirty clothes!
