How do we help children who need additional support and with special educational needs?

Our Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs Rebecca Prior who can be contacted via the school office on 01392 881482 or duchy@ventrus.org.uk or rprior@ventrus.org.uk

At The Duchy School, we are committed to providing an inclusive education for all. Throughout their school life some children, for different reasons, may require extra support in their learning that is ‘additional to and different from’ that of their peers. Children may at this time be placed on the Special Educational Needs Register.  At The Duchy School this means that your child will have a School Based Plan (SBP), written by their class teacher, with clear and structured targets to enable them to make progress. They will receive support in their learning that is additional to their work in class, from an experienced member of the support staff either in a group or 1:1 in relation to the targets given. This additional provision is monitored by our Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo). Children remain on the register for varying amounts of time and the aim is that every child is supported to become a successful learner and challenged to achieve at the highest level.
