King Class Residential

Monday 26th September

Our Year 6 Dartmoor Residential has got off to a fantastic start. The weather has been kind to us and we have had a brilliant afternoon orienteering. Some of the groups managed to get the highest scores that we’ve ever had from any orienteering group from Duchy and worked well together to read their maps and locate the checkpoints.

This evening, children have worked together in groups to create their own super hero who they have designed and created a costume for. They have then taken part in a fashion show to show off their fabulous creations!

Tuesday 27th September

Today, children spent half of their day caving. All children showed fantastic resilience venturing underground and getting incredibly muddy! They had a fantastic time but will be coming home with some rather grubby clothes!

The children also took part in archery where some great shots were made and a few bullseyes were hit!

This evening, children have written postcards home (they may arrive before we return). They were also challenged to make the tallest tower from newspaper that they could – there were some impressive constructions.

Wednesday 28th September

We’ve had a busy day today! Children have been exploring Soussons Forest on mountain bikes practising their off-road skills and taking part in different games and challenges.

They have also been exploring the moorland around the centre and finding out more about the history and landscape of the moor as well as being told different legends and a few ‘spooky’ stories.

This evening, we have been on a night walk where we spotted different constellations as well as creating a few of our own. On our return to the centre, the children enjoyed marshmallows around a toasty campfire.

Thursday 29th September

Year 6 have spent today at Hound Tor where they have spent some of the day climbing and abseiling. They all challenged themselves with climbing as high as possible and then making sure that they had the correct position to then abseil down the Tor.

The children also spent time weasling, scrambling and completing some parkour over a range of boulders!

This evening, we’ve had our disco where children have shown off their dance moves. We’ve also held our awards ceremony including awards for the tidiest room which children have been earning points for all week.

We’ve had an amazing time and the children are looking forward to sharing their adventures with you on their return home.
